Welcome to the Shrewsbury Methodist Circuit web site, which we hope you will find helpful and informative.
Methodism has been in the town since the days of John Wesley who founded the Methodist movement in the 18th century. Shrewsbury was one of the places he visited and he preached on several occasions.
Shrewsbury Methodist Circuit is typical of many circuits around the country. Comprising of eleven congregations, three of which are Anglican/Methodist joint congregations (LEPs), the churches are supported by two full-time Presbyters, three Associate Ministers (Anglican ministers connected with the LEPs), and Pastoral Lay Worker and an excellent team of Lay Preachers. Shrewsbury is also fortunate to have help from retired Ministers, and a Leadership Team formed by those in ministry alongside experienced and highly motivated lay Officers.
With such a variety of churches and skilled leadership, those looking for a church to belong to and a place to worship will find God's right place for them, and all our churches offer a warm and sincere welcome in Christ's name.
To be a Methodist and a Christian in the 21st century is both a joy and a challenge. The joy is in the fellowship we have with each other and the support and encouragement we receive as together we explore what it is to receive and respond to the Love of God. At the same time, Shrewsbury Methodists are challenged by our traditional emphases of scriptural holiness and social responsibility, as we seek to express God's love for us by looking out to those in our communities who are in need of help and care, support and encouragement in their lives. To this end we value and cherish a common mission to the world in which ordained and lay alike offer individual gifts and skills to the work of the Gospel.
During 2008, the Circuit and the individual congregations that belong to it, will be working towards a greater vision of the future for our churches, and under the guidance of the Holy Spirit will be seeking to discern those ways in which God is calling us to discover new ways of sharing the Good News of His Love in Christ with an ever growing community of people.
It is an exciting time to be a Christian and a Methodist, and we look forward to welcoming and working with all who feel called to share the future with us. If we can be of any help to anyone visiting this site, we hope you will feel free to contact us.
