What is a church?

A Church is a gathering of people who meet together to praise, worship & give thanks to God. The members of the church share the belief of one creator God, who loves us so much that he sent his only son Jesus, to live and die for us. The believers are called Christians and believe that Jesus is alive today in the presence and power and working of the Holy Spirit.

The church meets together regularly to share God's word (the Bible) and pray for each other, the world and themselves. The believers support and help others in the fellowship and community in which they live and the world.

What is a Christian?

Christians are people who believe that God, who is Holy and divine, came to earth and lived with us as Jesus, so that He could show us His love and power.

Christians accept Jesus as Christ, the one chosen by God, Lord and Saviour [the one who saves].

Christians live in communion with God, that is they pray to Him and talk with Him to seek His guidance, strength and comfort.

Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is God's Spirit and power. He is present in every believer and guides, directs, encourages and helps them to live according to God's plan for them.

What is a Methodist?

A Methodist is a Christian and member of the universal Church. We confess Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and accept the calling to serve Him in the life of the Church and the world.

We believe that;-

All need to be saved
All may be saved
All may know themselves saved.
All may be saved to the uttermost.

Belle Vue Methodist Church is a gathering of 94 members. Sunday Morning worship is attended by about 75 people.

Our church has a wide age range with several young families and a Junior Church.

On the second sunday of each mounth, we have an all age worship service called 'Second Sunday Service'. The worship is planned by preachers and musicians and involves members of our congregation in drama, singing, reading and witnessing.

The S.S.S. worship is different every time and each service has a particular theme. Check out the Worship page for more details.

As well as to worship, the church meets together to pray and study the Bible at house group meetings held during the week.

Many members work voluntairily for various charitable organisations in Shrewsbury and beyond.

The church has close links with other churches in the area - working with Churches Together in Shrewsbury and supporting One World Week , Ecumenical Lent Groups, Shrewsbury Youth for Christ, Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (Jan.), N.C.H. Action for Children and Christian Aid.
